Safety & Care Standards

Because your dog deserves adventure and you deserve peace of mind

At DogHikesDFW, your dog's safety, comfort, and happiness are our top priorities. From our gear to our trail choice, every detail is designed to give your pup a safe, enriching experience while giving you confidence in our care.

Trail Safety Comes First

We choose trails based on your dog's fitness, age, and temperament. Whether it's a shaded forest path for a senior pup or a more adventurous route for our high-energy hikers, each hike is designed with intention.

We consider:

  • Weather conditions

  • Trail terrain and heat index

  • Wildlife and leash laws

  • Your dog's comfort and behavior history

Handling & Gear

We Hike with safe, durable equipment to ensure your dog is comfortable and secure

We use:

  • No-pull harnesses

  • Long lines for sniffari-style hikes in open areas

  • Waste bags and collapsible water bowls

  • Towel-downs post-hike if muddy or wet

You're welcome to provide your dog's preferred gear- just let us know in advance

GPS Tracking & Updates

We offer live GPS tracking or real-time check-ins during hikes so you can follow along with your dog's journey. You'll also receive:

  • Photo and/or videos

  • A post-hike report card

  • Notes on mood, energy, and highlights

Transportation

If your hike includes a pickup, dogs are safely secured during transport in a well-ventilated vehicle with:

  • Crates or seatbelt harnesses (based on size and comfort)

  • Cooling towels and water in hot weather

  • Blankets and a calm loading routine to reduce stress

Reactive Dog Protocol

We welcome dogs of all temperaments including reactive dogs! We hike solo, avoid triggers, and use positive reinforcement to create a calm, rewarding experience.

Let us know your dog's needs, and we'll adjust the plan accordingly.

Weather & Emergency Policy

Weather too hot or stormy? We'll notify you ASAP. Hikes may be rescheduled or shortened for your dog's safety. We also monitor signs of overheating, dehydration, or fatigue throughout the hike.

In case of injury or emergency:

  • We carry a basic canine first aid kit

  • You'll be contacted immediately

  • Your emergency vet info will be on file

Care Like They're Our Own

We treat every dog like part of our pack. Whether it's quick towel-off or a moment to decompress post-hike, we prioritize calm, happy drop-offs and respectful care throughout.
